As I recover early this morning from last night’s outings after day 1 of SMX West 2013 , I realized that I had triggered a recording of the Q&A from Matt Cutts’ and Duane Forrestor’s session yesterday. I edited it down for the two most important parts regarding algorithm changes.
Being my first major SMX in the US, I always suspected that the reports of Google’s Matt Cutts mentioning changes were blown out of proportion. That’s why I think it’s vital everyone listen for themselves instead of driving the whole industry into a frenzy based on broken telephone and snowball effect / mass hysteria. While I’m not suggesting these won’t be serious updates – I think we need to put everything in the proper context.
Listen for yourselves: [and sorry for the huge geeky laughs!!]
Part 1:
Matt responds and barely mentions that “we’re working on the next generation [of Penguin]” at 0:58
Matt Cutts Discusses Algorithm Updates at SMX West (Part 1)
Part 2:
Matt gets asked “whats the next big algorithm update we should look out for in 2013”.. nothing huge revealed besides clarifying again that there will be another version of Penguin at 0:16

Personal note – I found Matt to be a super nice guy. He was welcoming to the HOARDS of people who swarmed him after both sessions. He has zero ego and really tries to give the time of day to everyone who approaches him.
